The 3rd Workshop on Membrane Computing and Biologically Inspired Process Calculi (MeCBIC 2009) will take place in Bologna on September 5th, as a satellite event of CONCUR 2009.
Original research papers (including significant work-in-progress) on the membrane systems or biologically inspired process calculi are sought. Papers on the relationship between membrane systems and biologically inspired process calculi are particularly welcome. Related formal approaches in which cell compartments play an important role are also within the scope of the workshop.
The main aim is to bring together researchers working in membrane computing, in biologically inspired process calculi (ambients, brane calculi, etc.) and in other related fields to present recent results and to discuss new ideas concerning such formalisms, their properties and relationships (similarities, differences,...).
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
|Luca Cardelli -- Pi in the Sky: Spatial Process Algebra for Developmental Biology|
Authors are invited to submit a PDF version of their papers (of about 15 pages) using the web page http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mecbic2009. The workshop proceedings will be published in the Electronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science. The submissions should be prepared using LaTeX and EPTCS style.
After the workshop, extended and additionally refereed papers will be published in a special issue of Theoretical Computer Science based on the papers accepted and presented at MeCBIC 2009.
Past Events: The first edition of MeCBIC was held in Venice in 2006 (co-located with ICALP 2006). One of the organizers of the first MeCBIC was Nadia Busi. Continuing the series after the tragic loss of Nadia, the second MeCBIC was held in Iasi in 2008. The previous proceedings of the MeCBIC workshops have been published in the Elsevier ENTCS series (vol.171 and vol.227).
Please note that the 3rd MeCBIC will be held exactly 2 years after the unexpected death of Nadia Busi who worked at the University of Bologna for many years...
