My full name is Sabin-Corneliu Buraga and I am an Associate Professor at The Faculty of Computer Science, "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iasi, Romania.
I achieved the title of Doctor in Information Sciences (Cum Laude) at "A.I.Cuza" University of Iasi in August 2004 – title of thesis: "The Multimedia Objects Manipulation Techniques on Internet", supervisor: Prof. Dr. Dumitru Todoroi.
Also, in 2005 I received "Gheorghe Cartianu" Award of the Romanian Academy for outstanding scientific contributions published in 2003.
Currently, some of my fields of interest and experience domains are:
Web Technologies – Web Application Development, Web Interaction, Web Engineering, etc.
Web of Data – i.e. Meta-data, Linked Data, (User-based) Knowledge Engineering, Ontologies, (Semantic) Web-based Architectures.
Human-Computer Interaction – Social Aspects of Web Applications, Natural Interaction, etc.
Also, I have background knowledge regarding Distributed Computing – Internet Technologies, Agent-based Computing, Mobility, Cluster, Grid and Cloud Computing, Peer-to-Peer Systems and others.
My papers are published in the proceedings of different international and national conferences or in special issues of international publications (e.g., IEEE Press, Springer, AAAI Press, IOS Press, Elsevier Science, and others) – consult the list of publications.
Over the years, I served as a member of the program committees or/and organizing committees of different (inter)national scientific events and summer schools.
I wrote and edited several books. Since 2002, I am the editor of the Web series of books published by the Polirom Publishing House. Also, I am a co-founder member and supervisor of a young interest group on Web technologies – WebGroup –, founded in March 2000 at the Faculty of Computer Science.
My recent teaching activity consists of Web Technologies, Web Application Development (former Semantic Web), and Human-Computer Interaction disciplines. Also, I delivered lectures within the Computer Science Doctoral School of "A.I.Cuza" University of Iasi and other several events.
I was a mentor of the Sytech student team awarded with 1st prize at Imagine Cup 2009 – Software Design section. During the years, I was involved in different events and competitions for students – a few examples: Mozilla Labs Concept Series: Student Outreach, Summer <Web/>, InfoEducatie, FII Competition.
I had a rich activity concerning the academic management:
vice-dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, responsible with student activities and academic curricula (January 2008—March 2012).
chancellor of the Faculty of Computer Science (2004—2008).
Additionally, I initiated and/or mentained various relations between academia and IT industry and organizations.
My hobbies are multiple. I only mention the artistic ones: literature, modern painters, and music – I am writing literature and I am painting myself – using exclusively the computer. I am a composer of electronic music, too.
